Book series similar to Agatha Christie's novels

Image
I'm a huge fan of Agatha Christie and love her books. Even the ones that are less entertaining. She will always be my favourite crime books author. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd was a masterpiece and it's my favourite book from the series.  I've read several books of hers, which include And Then There were none, The Murder at the Orient Express, Cards at the table, The Mysterious Affairs at Styles, ABC Murders, and I'm yet to read so many good books of the series. Especially ones that include our favourite Hercule Poirot and Arthur Hastings. We can never have enough of these two. My top three books were : 1. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd 2. ABC Murders 3. The Murder at the Orient Express Now, I have always wondered, are there any other crime fiction authors like Agatha Christie?  If yes, there must be a masterpiece like the Murder of Roger Ackroyd too. So, I packed my bag, took some clothes and food and went on a journey to find these diamonds. I trouped, travelled, was ...

Winter recommendations.....

Been a while since I posted here. When there is a new post on my blog, it's about a book I read. But in the past three months, I haven't read a single book. However, there are some amazing books that I've been waiting to read this year.  First of them is A deadly education by Naomi Novik released on September 29. I've previously read one of her books Spinning Silver and was mesmerised by her writing style. That was the reason why I was eagerly waiting for her latest book. I've already got the ebook but a hardcover version might just suit me better. The reviews tells me that it is going to be an excited read. Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson is another one on my list. It is one of the most anticipated book of the year. Usually it takes me about 10-15 days to read a book in the stormlight archives series. However, unlike the last three books, this time I'm eyeing for a hardcover edition for those amazing illustrations they have inside the book . It's goi...

Best place to buy second hand books online in India

Image
So often it happens that you want to read so many books, your Goodreads want to read list keeps getting bigger and bigger every year and yet you think twice before buying that book. Because buying books can be really expensive, especially if you like to read a lot.  I have bought lots of books over the years. And I enjoyed each of them. But after I'm done reading, I don't even open them again. There are books that are as exciting as the first time you read them (Kingkiller Chronicles for me). And there are books that aren't much fun the second time. Or the third. Instead, they get cornered on your shelf, eating dust. It would be much better if you can just buy used books at cheaper prices compared to Amazon and Flipkart. Books are magical and a second-hand book is the old magic spell. Luckily, there are websites where you can not just buy used books but sell your own.  I'm listing below websites where it's easy to find many used books at cheaper prices. 1. Bookis...

Fantasy, Stormlight Archives and me...

Image
Hey there, everybody Today I want to talk about a fantasy series I have recently been obsessed with. Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson.  My fascination with fantasy and Science Fiction dates back to my childhood when I used to read lots of comics and stories in the newspaper edition of Saturday. Stories filled with magic, adventure, romance and secret treasures.  It made me love this genre. But the best part about reading fiction is it indirectly teaches you a lot. Some stories are open to the interpretation of the readers. While others are happily ever after kind. While it's natural for anyone to hate the one with a sad ending, if you look at it from another angle you might get why it had to be so.  This reminds me of a quote from my favourite fantasy series, Kingkiller Chronicles. It goes, " It's the questions we can't answer that teach us the most. They teach us how to think. If you give a man an answer, all he gains is a little fact. But give him a question...

Review : Words of Radiance - A masterpiece of Stormlight Archive

Image
Recently I completed reading Words of Radiance. It's the second book of Stormlight Archive. It's been a while since I read the first one - ' The Way of Kings '. Months actually. 8 months. I like to take a break before moving on to the next one in fantasy series like these. They come once in every 3 years or so.  It's good to read it in intervals till the next one comes.  When I was reading Way of Kings, it took 15 days. And it was around 1200 pages. I enjoyed it a lot. But at that time I wasn't obsessed with the series like I'm now. Words of Radiance was 1328 pages in mass-market paperback version and I finished it in seven days !!! I was so much into it. It was perfect. Brandon Sanderson deserves all the praise he gets for Stormlight Archive.  There were several goosebumps moments in the book. I can't describe them here. It would spoil the book for you. Many times I had to stop reading for a few seconds, just to absorb it. And then resume it ag...
