Naturally, having never heard about them before, it makes us wonder about who these people really were and we want to know more about them. It's really exciting and enriching experience reading books by Amish because every time we get to know different things about our India, our Indian culture and our people. Vayuputras and Parihans Vayuputras tribe were first mentioned in Shiva Trilogy . It's the tribe left behind by Lord Rudra, the previous Mahadev before Lord Shiva. You might mistake Lord Rudra and Lord Shiva as the same person. From our ancient literature, we always thought of Rudra as another form of Lord Shiva. A fierce for...

UPDATE: The latest book by Amish,  The Chola Tigers : Avengers of Somnath  is available for pre-orders now. Click on the link below to pre-order it now. https://amzn.to/4me29FZ R am Chandra series is an ongoing mythological-fiction series by Amish Tripathi about the life of Lord Ram, Lady Sita, and Raavan. Three books have been released as of now. The first book Scion of Ikshvaku  was released in June 2015. The second book Sita: Warrior of Mithila  was released in May 2017. And the third book Raavan: Enemy of Aryavarta   was released in July 2019. Amish is currently working on the fourth book of the series, tentatively titled ' The War of Lanka '.  Amish currently stays in London and is a Director of the Nehru Centre. So it would be difficult for him to manage writing books because of added responsibilities as a director. He also lost his father recently and that must have been a difficult time to cope with for him. So the delay is justified. Th...

Review - Raavan Enemy of Aryavarta by Amish Tripathi

Update The latest book of the Ram Chandra series, ' War of Lanka ' is now available for pre-orders.  You can order it on Amazon using the link below. https://amzn.to/3b78aoT   Raavan - Enemy of Aryavarta the third book of the Ramchandra series was released on 1 July. This book was more interesting. The Secret of Nagas (Book 2 of Shiva Trilogy) was the best work of Amish. This book is just as good. There will be SPOILERS ahead.         One of the reasons for that being since Ravana was 56 years old at the end of the book, he had a long journey right from having nothing but his uncle Mareech in his childhood to support him, a mother and months old brother to protect to be the king of Lanka in the end. He acquired all of it by himself. Though sometimes by bad means. Also, I really liked how gradually the story proceeds. Changes in Ravan both physically and mentally as he grows older. His love for music and painting, knowledge of Vedas, philosophy, trading...

Quotes from Raavan Enemy of Aryavarta - Ram Chandra Series #3

Update The latest book of the Ram Chandra series, ' War of Lanka ' is now available for pre-orders.  You can order it on Amazon using the link below. https://amzn.to/3b78aoT Since Raavan - Enemy of Aryavarta is out now and loved by fans of Amish, I found some of the best quotes in the book. Some of them are from Raavan's point of view and then some by other characters in the book. Nevertheless, as usual, Amish provides the best philosophical insight in his latest book. 1. When you fill a clogged drain with more water than it can hold, it's bound to overflow and contaminate everything around it. When grief overwhelms someone, when they are enraged at what fate has done to them, their fury often overflows and is inflicted upon the world. 2. What you term monster is the fire every successful man has within him. A fire that will not let him rest. A fire that drives him to work hard. To be smart. To be relentless. Focused. Disciplined. For those are the ingredients of su...

Bees Quarter - Sita Warrior of Mithila

Image
Bees Quarter was a complex of houses built for poor people living in slums in Mithila. It was mentioned in the book, Sita Warrior of Mithila , the second book in the Ram Chandra series.  Sita wanted that the southern gate of Mithila is demolished and new, permanent houses are built for the poor on the same land. These houses were built with money given by Malayputras to Sita just after Sita was declared Vishnu by Vishwamitra. Though the execution had been entrusted to Samichi, Sita had involved herself in the planning and design of the project after consulting the representatives of the slum dwellers. She had eventually worked out an innovative solution for not only their housing needs but also providing them with a sustainable livelihood. The slum dwellers very superstitious so they wanted their new home to be built exactly at the place where the old home was. But the original slum had no street. There were just small haphazard pathways. It was then that Sita came up with...

Roshni - Scion of Ikshvaku

Image
Roshni is a daughter of Manthara, a wealthy merchant of Ayodhya in Scion of Ikshvaku   (Ram Chandra Series #1) by Amish Tripathi. All the four princes of Ayodhya considered her as a sister. Her character was very nicely written in the book.  However, we rarely ever heard of her. Valmiki Ramayana does not mention sister of Ram. However, in many other scriptures, there is a story of his elder sister Shanta. Shanta with four Ayodhya princes in forest   She was a child from Kaushalya. Shanta is given in marriage to Rishyashringa, a sage whose celibacy causes drought in Lompada’s kingdom.   STORY OF RISHYASHRINGA Rishyasringa was born miraculously of an antelope with the horns of a deer on his forehead. He is the son of Rishi Vibhandak, descendent of Kashyapa. Another legend has it that Rishyasringa is the son of celestial nymph Menaka. Rishi Vibhandak, Rishyasringa`s father was enticed by the celestial dancer Menaka by order of Lord Indra, the king ...

The Immortal India - Book Review

Image
The book was released on 28th August 2017 and I had it in my hand the next day. That's the impact of his books on me. And even this is a non-fiction book, I cannot resist myself from ordering it on Amazon.   This book basically contains articles and speeches by Amish that were published in newspapers and journals. It also contains debates and talks that he gave in various lit festivals which he keeps on attending as he likes having interaction with readers. We met too, Amish Sir !! Perhaps you won't remember. But we did when you came here with Sanjiv Sanyal for the book launch event. It was in the last year.      Before  I start discussing the book, let's have a look at the trailer . Now, the book is divided into four parts Religion & Mythology Social Issues History Musings 1. Religion & Mythology This section is my favourite. In this section, Amish starts with Lord Shiva - The God of contradiction . Explores questions like Why p...

What was the Oath of Vayuputras?

Image
Have you read Oath of the Vayuputras? No? Then please don't read this article. There is a spoiler. And I want you to enjoy your third book.    Yes? okay. Continue. But do you know what was the oath of the Vayuputras? I think you don't. Me neither when I first completed that book. And I never actually thought about it. I mean, when you complete Amish's book you have so much else to wonder about rather than the title. First, I was very sad when I knew about Sati's death. Her death saddened me so much. She was my favourite character throughout the series. Then the end was also not something I would have imagined and it came as a shock. Or maybe I watch too many Disney movies that I am habitual to happy endings.  Oath of Vayuputras  “We will always remain faithful to your command, Lord Rudra, this is the blood oath of a Vayuputra”. This is what  Manobhu  - Vayuputra Lord , one of the Amartya Shpand, a member of the council of six wise men and...

Samichi - Sita Warrior of Mithila ( Ram Chandra Series #2)

Image
What is the relationship between  Khara and Samichi is one of the questions that pops up in your mind if you completed reading Sita - Warrior of Mithila.     I have tried to answer this question to the best of my knowledge from Amish's books as well as our Hindu mythology textures. Please read it carefully and if you have any questions, feel free to write them in the comment box. KHARA In   Sita - Warrior of Mithila , there is not much of the description of Khara. The book is about the life of  Devi Sita and it unfolds the events starting from her birth to how she got kidnapped by Raavan’s soldiers.   Mostly, we know about Khara from the initial chapters of the second book - Sita. He tortured Jatayu so that Sita would reveal herself as she was hiding behind the trees and observing all this. It was because of him, that Sita had to come out to protect his brother -Jatayuji. She did come. But Khara was very cruel. He killed Jatayu. This in...
